After working in Belgium and Italy for a few years as Cocreate vzw which is registered in Belgium, we began taking on individual cases in Nigeria, and saw that the needs were endless. So, our foundation in Nigeria was created in response to the need for more support for victims of sexual violence and human trafficking, as well as the need for capacity building and support for caregivers and first responders. We partner with local organisations with the goal of longevity.
We provide different types of support for victims of sexual violence human trafficking (and their families), and work with them and our partners towards a future that is realistic and sustainable. We don’t compare one person to another, each person’s journey is personal and unique, and that is how we proceed. We also provide training for caregivers and first responders, and are working towards providing other forms of support for them in the very important work that they do.
Our main beneficiaries are victims of sexual violence and human trafficking, and mainly single mothers, whom we work with to provide the support that they need; after all, we are the writers of our own stories. We never share identifiable pictures of our beneficiaries for their privacy and ethical reasons, as we believe that they should be able to go through life without being identified by their traumas.
